CED Report Shows North Carolina Venture Investments Surged in 2007

Research Triangle Park, N.C. – The Council for Entrepreneurial Development (CED) today announced the results of their 2007 CED North Carolina Venture Report in conjunction with the start of CED’s 25th annual Venture conference in Durham, NC. According to the report, North Carolina companies raised more than $900 million in venture capital investments - a 72% increase over 2006. Building the Future: PTRP Eyes Next Phase of Growth

In downtown Winston-Salem, 230 acres of concrete is being transformed into a bustling research and business development. Already, the Piedmont Triad Research Park contains 554,000 square feet of lab space and provides hundreds of jobs for Triad residents. Wake Forest University and its Health Sciences CEO Richard Dean drove much of the growth in the last few years. Dean retired as Wake Forest Health Sciences CEO in June, leaving big shoes to fill in the leadership post. Douglas L. Edgeton, M.B.A., M.P.H., stepped into that spot in November. Wake Forest Graduate Students Finalists in Collegiate Inventors Competition

Three graduate students from Wake Forest University School of Medicine were finalists in the 2007 Collegiate Inventors Competition (CIC), a program of the National Inventors Hall of Fame Foundation.
